The CEO of San Diego company AVRP Studios, Douglas H. Austin started his company in 1976 as a small design firm in his home. Since then, Douglas H. Austin has built the firm into one of the most successful in San Diego, having designed billions of dollars’ worth of buildings. Mr. Austin studied architecture at California State Polytechnic and he is now a widely recognized design professional.

Preparing to become a full-time architect can take a number of years of schooling and practical experience. The undergraduate program (Barch) takes around 5 years, and this undergraduate program must be accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). It is typically followed by 3 years of professional work experience or internships.

Students who wish to begin in the field as quickly as possible may choose to do a non-accredited, 4-year undergraduate course. Doing so will allow them to work in an architecture firm but will not provide them with licensure. Alternatively, anyone from virtually any field can take a non-accredited post-graduate architecture course and begin working in a firm.
